World Hepatitis Day

Thursday, July 28th, is the 4th annual World Hepatitis Day. The date has varied in past years, but July 28th has now been declared World Hepatitis Day. This is also the first year that World Hepatitis Day has been recognized by the World Health Organization and the White House.

Chronic hepatitis B and hepatitis C affect nearly 500 million people worldwide and nearly 5.3 million people here in the U.S. Additionally, hepatitis B and hepatitis C are the leading causes of liver disease and liver cancer. Despite these facts, people are still very unaware of viral hepatitis, the risks, and how to protect themselves. Furthermore, the majority are unaware they are infected.
